Jim Thorpe Irish Fest  |  March 9-10 & 16-17 2019

Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency presents Inaugural Irish Fest

Irish eyes keep smiling.

While the Carbon St. Patrick’s Parade won’t be making its way down Broadway next month, the Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency (JTTA) invites locals and visitors alike to celebrate their Celtic roots with its Inaugural Irish Fest on March 9-10 and 16-17.

JTTA president Jennifer Christman was one of many saddened to hear about the discontinuation of the parade.

“Though we have fond memories of this long-standing tradition in Jim Thorpe and Carbon County and appreciate all the work done by its organizers, JTTA is trying to accommodate our residents and visitors with this new event. We are excited to start new traditions in our town and pick up where the parade left off,” Christman said.

Goers donning their finest Irish accessories can kick up their heels and enjoy strolling musicians both weekends including the Faculty Brass and the Bethlehem-based Mackay Pipe Band’s drums and bagpipes will echo through town on Sunday, March 10.

The Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway, will present two evenings of Celtic performances including the Tartan Terrors on Saturday, March 9 and the Kilmaine Saints, who will kick off St. Patrick’s Day weekend a little early on Friday, March 15.

The Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center, 41 W. Broadway, will be open with a special discount for Passport holders. In addition, each Passport holder will receive a FREE Irish Fest t-shirt!

Named for the swift river that flows through southern Ireland, Blackwater has been delivering its high-energy brand of Celtic music to audiences on the East Coast of America in pubs, concert halls and on festival stages for 22 years. Striking vocal harmonies, intricate fiddling, an award-winning piper, flute, whistles, keyboard and guitar---and a penchant for compelling rhythms lend the group its unmistakable take on the traditional. The band has been a staple at the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem for two decades and been a featured group at many other festivals from Buffalo to Myrtle Beach. Innovative arrangements and a passion for fun freshen the mix for a show that has been described as “Sheer Ceili Aerobics!”

Kilmaine Saints

Friday, March 15 | 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Mauch Chunk Opera House

14 W Broadway, Jim Thorpe PA 18229

Kilmaine Saints is a band formed on good whiskey and bad intentions. The brainchild of two members of a Harrisburg Pipe & Drum band, this side project was originally created with the sole intent of getting them free beer at St Patrick’s Day shows in the Central PA area (and might I add – mission accomplished). After incorporating the help of fellow members from the pipe band and other notable musicians from the area, they soon realized they were in for one hell of a ride.

Since 2009 they have continued to pound through blistering, high-energy live sets that keep people singing along, stomping their feet, lifting their pints and shouting for more.

TICKETS: $18 each or $13 with the "Pot O' Gold Passport". Discount given at box office.
